Tennis at Sunrise

If tennis is your game, Sunrise Country Club is where you will want to play. Since its inception in 1972, Sunrise Country Club has been known for its excellent tennis facilities and outstanding tennis program. Twelve hard courts are expertly maintained to provide a great competitive play environment. Our premier facility affords a great experience for both men and women, young and old, novice or expert. Play when you want, with whom your want, or let our tennis director arrange a game for you with players of your own level.
In addition to regular matches, Sunrise offers both men’s and women’s leagues, club championships and just-for-fun tournaments throughout the year. The tennis calendar features a number of popular events including:

  • Sandblasters Tournament which features two days of women's and men's doubles, mixed doubles, a welcoming cocktail party and awards luncheon afterwards.

  • Men's Superbowl Tournament and luncheon

  • Fall Frolic featuring competitive tennis followed by lunch and a variety of board games including mahjong, bridge, and other card games.

  • Bloody Mary Tournament held in late spring followed by brunch and - you guessed it - bloody marys!

Sunrise Country Club’s tennis program is very highly regarded, as evidenced by our hosting the National Collegiate Tennis Classic for the last three years, showcasing some of the nation’s finest NCAA college tennis teams. This premier collegiate tennis event is again scheduled to be held at Sunrise Country Club in January of 2017.

Pickleball at Sunrise

In 2012, a handful of members with experience playing the game of pickleball, at locations outside of Sunrise Country Club, began efforts to establish the sport at Sunrise.  With 13 tennis courts onsite at Sunrise, this group of members convinced the Tennis Committee and the head tennis pro to allow them to “tape off” two temporary pickleball courts on court number 13.

Interest in the sport grew rapidly and the Country Club decided in 2014 to establish three “semi-permanent” courts with actual painted lines.  In 2015, when court 13 was due for resurfacing and striping, the club’s board decided to convert this court to four first-class regulation pickleball courts which has proved to be an extremely popular decision.

With many more new players coming on board in the 2015-16 season, the Country Club Board officially established the Sunrise Country Club Pickleball Association (SCCPA).  Pickleball, now recognized as the fastest growing sport in the United States, is especially popular among senior citizens and retirees.  Sunrise Country Club is dedicated to the continuing expansion of this sport.

Sunrise Country Club offers a variety of membership categories and nonresidents of Sunrise are welcome to join the Sunrise pickleball family.  Currently there are three “open-play” days during which every player who comes out to play will rotate in and out allowing each player to participate in many games.  Guests play “free” on their first visit, so bring your own paddle, or use one of the club’s loaners, and join in the fun.  Pickleball is a great way to get exercise and meet new friends.
